The practical bits

The questions everyone asks.

If something is not answered here, call Simon or send a note from the contact page. You will reach the photographer himself.

Does my whole donation go to the rescue?

Yes. 100% of the $100 donation is delivered directly to German Shepherd Rescue Victoria. Volume One raised more than $25,000 for them.

What does it cost to take part?

Taking part is a $100 donation, given in full to the rescue. That includes your dog's place in the book and your portrait sitting. A copy of the hardcover book is a separate keepsake at $150 plus shipping, and any wall or tabletop artwork you choose afterwards is optional, with a $100 credit toward it.

Do I have to buy artwork?

No. Your dog's place in the book is included with your donation. After the sitting you are welcome to view and choose photographs, with a $100 credit toward your wall or tabletop artwork. Many owners do, once they have seen their dog as archival art, but it is entirely your choice.

How many dogs can take part?

Up to three dogs from one family can share a page. If you have more, get in touch and we will see how your brood fits the vision of the book.

Does my dog need to be a rescue?

Not at all. We love and welcome all German Shepherds, rescued, bred, long-coat, working line, young or grey around the muzzle.

What is the Fur-Model Audition?

A relaxed meeting before the sitting, with no grooming fuss. We get to know your dog, show you past work and published books, and talk through the vision so the day itself is calm and certain. We also walk you through the artwork and what it costs, so there are no surprises later and you can plan with confidence.

Where do the sittings happen?

Sittings take place across Victoria, the ACT, New South Wales, South Australia, Western Australia and Queensland. Tell us where you are when you register and we will arrange the rest.

Tell me about the book itself.

German Shepherds of Australia Volume Two is a hardcover, 320 by 320 millimetres, more than 200 pages, printed to a high archival standard. It is $150 plus shipping, separate from the donation to take part.

When is Volume Two published?

We photograph through 2026 and 2027, with the book published in the final quarter of 2027. Every dog photographed along the way helps the rescue straight away.
